  •  Sharks predate the dinosaurs by 200 million years. The largest known species of shark, C. megalodon, may have been over 20 metres long.

 

  • The amplitude of tides in the deep mid-ocean are about 1 metre. Coastal tides can be more than 10 times as large as in the mid-ocean.

 

  • Tsunami's can have wave lengths ranging from 10 to 500 km's

 

  • Australias coastline is adjacent to three major ocean regions: 
    1. The Indian Ocean
    2. The Southern Ocean
    3. The South Pacific Ocean

 

  • Barnacles are a Crustacean related to Crabs and Shrimps but look more like the unrelated sea shells that are Molluscs

 

  • The World ocean, or simply the ocean, is the connected body of salt water that covers over 70 percent of the Earth's surface

 

  • The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean on earth, it covers 30% of the earths surface

 

  • The second largest ocean on Earth is the Atlantic Ocean, it covers 21% of the earth’s surface

 

  • The third largest ocean on Earth is the Indian Ocean, it covers around 14% of the earth’s surface
